Director

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercialization Program (MSEC) within the College of Science and Engineering at Texas State University.

We are in the midst of a materials revolution, both in the way new materials are developed and in the impact that these materials will have as we face the many challenges of the 21st century. Nanotechnology is creating breakthrough materials for applications as diverse as waste energy harvesting, data storage, catalytic processes, precise targeting of tumors in cancer treatment and other important aspects of our daily lives. New computational methods and laboratory techniques enable new classes of composite materials, leading, for example, to the creation of flexible circuits and magnets. A Ph.D. in materials science, engineering and commercialization provides a sound base of skills essential for success in materials research.

The MSEC program focuses on current areas of application-oriented research. Students in the MSEC program study with nationally funded and internationally known researchers utilizing unique state-of-the-art facilities. Our program also provides you with the business knowledge and skills to translate your research into marketable products. The MSEC program will give you practical, relevant experience and prepare you for real-world success. Studying MSEC at Texas State gives you access to outstanding faculty. Many of our senior faculty members have been high-level managers at both large and small technology companies, and most have industrial and commercialization experience. You will learn from those who have been successful at technical innovation - practitioners of the art of technology commercialization.

Regards,

Sean M. Kerwin, PhD
